The Car Fest is a one-day show, but Fredericksburg rewards a longer stay. The town sits at the center of Texas wine country, surrounded by peach orchards, granite domes, and some of the best small-town dining in the state. Here is how to turn a Saturday show into a full weekend.
Where to eat
Start your morning with kolaches and coffee on Main Street, then keep it local for lunch with Hill Country barbecue. After the awards, the town's German restaurants and beer gardens are an easy walk from Marktplatz, and the tasting rooms stay busy into the evening.
What else to do
Drive out to Enchanted Rock for a morning hike before the show, or spend Sunday touring the wineries along US-290. Peach stands line the roads in early summer, and the town's shops are made for a slow afternoon of browsing.
Book a room early. Show weekend is one of the busiest of the year, and the best B&Bs and guest houses fill up fast. Reserve as soon as your plans are set, then come early and stay late.
